Jack is also well-known throughout the Southwest for his sumi-e ink portraits of Native Americans. Naomi Simpson-Beck of Waynesville will be doing Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Decorating) Pysanky (pronounced pee-sank-e) is the traditional Eastern European art of egg decorating. It has been practiced for 3,000 years, and is steeped in culture, religion and mysticism. Each symbol, line and color used in the design has a meaning. Jud Yalkut of Waynesville, an internationally known film/video maker, who has been exhibiting both collage and watercolor work for some time. His collages have an extremely detailed fusion of picture elements to create unified images that partake of the Surrealist sensibility. His watercolors are usually all executed plein air, on site, and focus on flowers and natural environments, as well as occasional memoirs of travel sites. Catherine Vance works in acrylic and oils, primarily involved in creating landscapes or subject matter dealing with the natural world. She has some abstract work, but more of impressionist and naturalistic style overall. Teresa Gale Campbell began creating vases after accumulating so many flower vases when her young daughter was killed in an automobile accident. Out of her grief and loss, Teresa created objects of art - beautiful vases decorated with beads, rocks & many other small objects. She markets her pieces with her company logo, "Taya's Treasures." Taya Natasha Marie, is Teresa's 1st granddaughter, named after Teresa's daughter, Natasha Marie, whose tragic death inspired her art. Colette Palamar does acrylic paintings - most featuring 'huts', small geometric houselike forms set into various landscapes. Her paintings deal primarily with environmental and social issues caused by patterns of consumption, her use of bright colors and child-like imagery evidence a fundamental faith in the future. She sees the world as collections and interconnections of “huts” which are our “true” selves and reflect us as we exist within tense networks of friends, families, communities, towns, nations, and as a globe. The power of these interconnections show Colette that hope is not lost. Paul Miles has been involved with cameras since he was a teen and now sees his mission as a photographer as promoting a healthy respect for the environment and all its flora and fauna. His work also includes scenes from travels throughout the country and pictures of Cincinnati landmarks. Heather Cornelius is an upcoming artist whose works mostly focus on her intuitive and spiritual side. The energy of life and music are her main inspiration for the work. While other inspiration also includes nature and the esoteric. Currently she lives in Columbus Ohio. Joan Rutan of J R Design will be at the July Stroll featuring artisan crafted jewelry using sterling silver and gold filled precious metals, precious gemstones, cultured fresh water pearls, Swarovski and Czech crystal beads and vintage beads and buttons. John Kennedy's paintings are scenes from real life. He paints primarily in watercolor, in a realistic style, and dabbles now and then with acrylics. But he much prefers the loose spontaneity of a watercolor painting. His subjects are varied, but he has a special fondness for equine paintings, portraits of young children and still life. See John Kennedy's website Sharen Eninger of Fish House Art Gallery will be conducting the children's activites at 188 North Main Street and also working on a sculpture piece. In addition to sculpture, Sharen also does woodcut printmaking, painting and fiber art working with mixed media. Jan Polk, painter of the Great American Flower Collection, (GAFC) tm, will be plein air painting during the July stroll. Jan uses only a pallet knife for her impressionist style landscape oil paintings when on location. GAFC images remind you to treat yourself with respect and to treat others with respect. From Jan's website you can view a wide range of her works. Sarah Lord designs and makes artist jewelry that features semi- precious stone pendants. Each necklace has a matching set of earrings and a description card giving information on the stone's holistic properties. Teina Tallarigo found a love for nature as well an energy which has inspired her to capture it on canvas. She observed layers, colors, transparencies and textured elements which she brings into her art of oil paintings, and mixed media and graphic design. Mary Kelly of German Village enjoys international travel where she has been inspired by the abundant selection of unique and colorful stones and precious metals. During her most recent travels she has collected materials from China, Argentina, Holland and Mexico. Combinations of colorful stones, metals and pearls designed for either casual or evening wear are the focus of her work. Several other Waynesville area artists will also be participating.
