Gingerbread House Contest Rules

Waynesville's Second Gingerbread House contest  hosted by The Hammel House.
Deadline for registering is Dec. 1 by mail, e-mail or drop off form at The Hammel House starting
Nov. 6th,  All houses should be brought to the Hammel House Nov. 30 - Dec 2, between the
hours of 10 am - 2 pm. Houses will be on display at the Hammel House through Dec. 28th.  
Judging will be done Friday Dec. 4th and ribbons will be on the winning houses during
Christmas in the Village.

Categories:
  1. Children (ages 12 & under)
  2. Adult (ages 13 and up)
 
Contest Rules:
  1. All entries must be made out of gingerbread.
  2. All entries must be on a board and can be any size up to 20" x 20".
  3. You may enter more than one house with a registration form for each one.
  4. Adult entries must be original designs - no kits.
     Children may use Gingerbread House kits and may be assisted by an adult.
  5. Decorations must be edible products (i.e. candies must be unwrapped, etc.). ONLY the base
can be inedible.
  6. No artificial displays such as styrofoam, plastic or glue.
  7. You will need a 3 x 5 note card that has your category, name, phone number and address
taped to bottom of display.
  8. Any entry that becomes damaged or deteriorates will need to be repaired or removed
within 48 hours of notification to entrant.  After 48 hours, Hammel House will remove and
dispose of entry if not returned to good condition.
  9.  A digital image to be used on the website should be submitted by the entrant to
redbarngeneralstore@yahoo.com.  Images will appear on Waynesville's holiday website
http://bit.ly/JYFLU  and entrant may encourage their friends and family to vote for their creation
to win the "People's Choice" award.
  10. All photos taken of entrees become the property of Waynesville Merchants Association
and we reserve the right to use them for promotional purposes without further compensation
to contestant.
  11. Entries must be picked up between the hours of 10am and 2pm on December 29th or Dec.
30th. If not picked up by then, houses will be disposed of.
  12.  $5.00 Entry Fee required for each Adult Entry.  $5.00 family fee for Children's Entries
(multiple entries for this fee so that all children in the family may participate for one fee)

Judging Criteria:
Gingerbread Houses will be judged on the following:
   * Originality
   * Overall appearance
   * Use of gingerbread
   * Choice and use of materials
   * Difficulty of design
  
Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, 1st & 2nd Place in each age category, and People's
Choice Award.
   
People's Choice Award:
The People's Choice Award is given to one contestant who will be voted on by our online
viewing public. Online voting will be from  Dec. 10th thru Dec. 27th and will be tallied and the
results will be posted Dec. 28th.
